Pride Comes Home: Wedgewood Houston Celebrates Community and Inclusion
June brought Pride Month celebrations across the country, and last week Nashville's Pride festivities filled the city with color, music, and joy. But this year, something special happened in Wedgewood Houston – our neighborhood didn't just participate from the sidelines downtown. Instead, we celebrated right here on Martin Street, marking a new chapter in our community's story.
A New Addition to the Neighborhood
This year was different because we welcomed our first bar and restaurant with strong ties to the LGBTQ+ community. Traxx relocated from the Chestnut Hill area to Wedgewood Houston earlier this year, setting up shop at The Finery. The move has been met with enthusiasm from both the establishment and the neighborhood – though we're honestly not sure who's more excited about the partnership.
Walk by Traxx on any given day and you'll notice something wonderful: Pride isn't just a month-long celebration here anymore. It's become a daily presence in Wedgewood Houston. While Traxx may be an adult-oriented venue, their doors are open to anyone who considers themselves a decent person, embodying the welcoming spirit that defines our community.
A Message from Your Neighbors
The following message was shared with the Wedgewood Houston community this Pride weekend:
A Message of Pride and Welcome from Your Wedgewood Houston Neighbors
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
This Pride Weekend, our vibrant Wedgewood Houston community comes together to celebrate something fundamental to who we are as a neighborhood: the beautiful diversity of the people who call this place home.
Pride isn't just about one weekend or one community – it's about recognizing that our neighborhood is stronger, more creative, and more welcoming because of every person who chooses to build their life here. From the artists transforming our warehouse spaces into galleries, to the families pushing strollers down Houston Street, to the couples sharing morning coffee at our local cafes – each story adds to the rich tapestry that makes Wedgewood Houston special.
Our neighborhood has always been a place where people could come as they are and find belonging. Whether you've lived here for decades or just moved in, whether you're visiting our restaurants and shops or calling our tree-lined streets home, you're part of what makes this community thrive.
This weekend, as rainbow flags fly alongside our regular decorations and celebrations fill our streets, we want every neighbor and visitor to feel the warmth of genuine welcome. Love is love, families come in all forms, and everyone deserves to feel safe, celebrated, and valued in their community.
To our LGBTQ+ neighbors: your presence makes our neighborhood more vibrant, your contributions make our community stronger, and your joy is our joy. To everyone else: let's show the world what inclusive Southern hospitality looks like.
Whether you're joining the celebrations, cheering from your front porch, or simply going about your weekend, you're part of something beautiful – a neighborhood that chooses love, acceptance, and community over everything else.
Happy Pride, Wedgewood Houston. Here's to being our authentic selves, together.
With love and pride

Looking Forward
The addition of Traxx to our neighborhood represents more than just a new business – it's a symbol of Wedgewood Houston's continued evolution as a place where all are welcome. As we move forward from Pride Month into the rest of the year, the rainbow flags and messages of inclusion remind us that celebrating our community's diversity isn't a seasonal activity.
In Wedgewood Houston, Pride isn't just in June – it's every day, woven into the fabric of who we are as neighbors, friends, and community members. Here's to continuing that tradition of welcome, acceptance, and authentic Southern hospitality that makes our corner of Nashville truly special.
