Today in Wedgewood Houston

Monday, October 12, 2026

The story of the week is still The Truth, the 4,400-capacity Live Nation venue at 424 Chestnut Street that opened October 1. In its first days, neighbors reported gridlock, long lines on the sidewalks, and difficulty getting home on show nights, and at least one resident started a petition asking officials for a fix or a firm date for answers. The pressure test arrives Wednesday, October 14, when Nashville SC hosts Sporting Kansas City at GEODIS Park, about a mile away. That is exactly the scenario residents warned about: a big match and a concert crowd converging on the same streets.

Beyond the venue, the past 48 hours brought little new WeHo-specific coverage. This issue therefore widens to the past week and labels older items, including a quiet Planning Commission record for the neighborhood and the development projects worth tracking into 2027.

The Truth’s First Weeks: Traffic and Parking Strain

WSMV reported on October 6 that residents describe congestion bad enough that some avoid leaving home on show days. They cited long queues before and after shows, fear of losing street parking, and rideshare restrictions that make it hard to be dropped at their own doors. One neighbor openly wondered what will happen when a GEODIS Park match lands on the same night as a concert. WKRN ran a similar report on neighbor concerns during the venue’s first week. The venue did not comment to WSMV before publication. Its general manager had earlier promised to evaluate and adjust the plan as it went and said the door was open to neighbor feedback.

The plan as described before opening relies heavily on the surrounding streets. The venue has about 350 guest spaces and points to more than 3,000 spaces in the area. Traffic officers are meant to steer drivers in from the west via 8th Avenue and Fort Negley Boulevard and away from the 4th and Chestnut intersection. WeGo added a bus stop on Chestnut Street, and rideshare pickup is designated at Hagan Street and Merritt Avenue. On October 4, a resident launched a Change.org petition after an October 3 traffic jam, asking for either a solution or a date for answers. It drew 92 signatures before closing.

What it means for residents: on show nights, expect the 4th and Chestnut corridor to be the choke point, and allow extra time if you live near Merritt, Hagan, or Chestnut. No formal changes to the traffic plan or community meeting have been announced in the coverage reviewed. If you want to weigh in, the venue’s stated openness to feedback and NDOT’s earlier public input sessions in August are the existing channels.

Game Night Overlap: Nashville SC at Home Wednesday

Nashville SC hosts Sporting Kansas City at GEODIS Park on Wednesday, October 14, at 7:30 PM. The club has two more listed home dates, October 28 and November 1, before the MLS playoffs, whose dates are still to be determined. As of the last standings snapshot in the sources reviewed (September 9), Nashville sat first in the Eastern Conference, so a home playoff match later this fall is plausible but not yet scheduled.

What it means for residents: with The Truth booked for most nights in October, a weeknight match could put both crowds on the road at the same time. The sources reviewed did not confirm whether The Truth has a show on October 14, so check both calendars if you plan to drive through the Wedgewood Avenue and 4th Avenue South area that evening.

Planning and Zoning: A Quiet Docket for WeHo

The Metro Planning Commission’s September 24 action agenda contained no cases in Council District 17 or tied to Wedgewood-Houston, Chestnut Hill, Fort Negley, or the Fairgrounds. The commission did approve two countywide items, 7-0: a new zoning definition for boarding houses and an update to the Growth and Preservation Concept Map. Both could shape what gets built in neighborhoods like WeHo over time. Its next meeting is Thursday, October 22, at 4:00 PM.

What it means for residents: there is no imminent WeHo rezoning to act on this week. The October 22 agenda is worth scanning when it posts, since the area’s pace of development makes a new filing likely at any time.

Development Pipeline to Watch (Older Items, Spring to Summer 2026)

Labeled older coverage, included for context. In April, the Nashville Post reported that Richland Building Partners is advancing a two-phase, two-building mixed-use project at 106 to 112 Rains Avenue, near Fourth Avenue South. The Rains Avenue building would rise up to seven stories, and the Fourth Avenue building’s design remains open to community discussion. The Board of Zoning Appeals has approved setback and height relief, zoning is reported to be in place, and a groundbreaking was targeted for spring 2027. The site acquisition timing was unclear.

On the restaurant front, the Nashville Post reported in March that Ayva, a Turkish restaurant, filed permits for 1234 Martin Street in the T3 Wedgewood-Houston building. Nashville Guru lists a second Gannons, a steak and oyster concept, as coming to 438 Houston Street in the former Earnest Bar and Hideaway space, with a 2027 opening.

What it means for residents: the Fourth Avenue frontage is the piece where neighbors may still have meaningful input on design. The restaurant additions continue WeHo’s shift toward a destination dining district, which adds amenities but also adds evening parking demand.

Fairgrounds and Arts Calendar

Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway’s marquee All American 400 weekend runs November 6 to 8, with a championship night Friday, a high-banks program

Saturday, and the 41st All American 400 on Sunday. The WeHo Art Crawl follows a first-Saturday pattern, held most recently on September 5. That would put the November crawl on Saturday, November 7, the same day as the Speedway’s Saturday program. That date is an inference, not a confirmed listing.
